The Croft

Ena – Manager

I started my career in the Criminal Justice field over 20 years ago, I qualified as a Probation Officer supervising adults and young offenders within the community and prison setting. In 2003 I went on to work with children and young people in therapeutic residential home based in Redhill Surrey, firstly as a Deputy Manager progressing to Home Manager. I worked for the same organisation for over 16 years in both residential and education settings.

I supported young people in care with challenging behaviour and those at risk of CSE. During my time as manager I was responsible for the day to day running of the homes, improving the standards and quality of care across two of the homes ensuring that regulations were met. During this time, I completed my Registered Managers Award along with obtaining an Assessors Award in order to help support residential staff obtain their diploma in residential childcare.

In then worked in the organisation’s specialist SEMH school also based in Redhill Surrey, where I worked with children aged 11-18 with complex needs and learning disabilities. I started as the schools Behaviour Manager and after 3 years I was promoted to the Deputy Head of the school with overall responsibilities for pastoral care, behaviour management, Looked After Children’s Manager and the supervision of the schools Teaching Assistants.

During this time, I taught students life skills, BTEC cookery and Child Care. In January 2018 I decided to move to East Sussex to be closer to family and in doing so I began to search for a new role where I would be able to utilise my skills and make a difference to the lives of young people.

In December 2019 I was offered a position with Headstart Residential Care as the Registered Manager of The Croft. Here I believe I can draw upon my wealth of knowledge, passion and commitment to supporting young people in a happy and positive environment. My vision is to build and support a strong team to deliver the best possible care for our young people to thrive and obtain the best outcomes in life.
